2027: Jonathan warned not to contest election to avoid second time ‘embarrassment’

A group operating under the aegis of Progressive Network for Tinubu on Tuesday warned the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to avoid embarrassment for the second time by not making himself available for the 2027 presidential election against Tinubu.

The pro-Tinubu expressed optimism that their principal has no serious opposition ahead of the presidential election, warning that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan would end in embarrassment should he returned to the race.

The warning follows media reports suggesting that Jonathan is warming up to contest the 2027 poll under a yet-to-be-revealed political party.

Director General of Progressive Network for Tinubu, Mr Olumide Obadele speaking at the inauguration of local government structures across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, on Tuesday urged Jonathan to uphold his reputation as a statesman by staying away from the 2027 race.

According to him, ‘opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress, are “on life support,” and any candidate contesting on their platform, including Jonathan, cannot defeat President Tinubu.

He dismissed reports that the ruling All Progressives Congress is in panic mood over media reports that ex-President Jonathan was warning up to contest presidency in 2027.

Jonathan was defeated in a presidential election in 2015 by the late President Mohammadu Buhari and if he contests against Tinub in 2027 and is defeated would amount to a second embarrassing defeat.
