Bandits kill APC chieftain, Moriki in Zamfara

Bandits have killed a prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara state in the north western Nigeria, Alhaji Umar Moriki.

This was confirmed in a statement by the APC Publicity Secretary, Mallam Yusuf Idris on Saturday, saying the politician was killed in the early of hours of Saturday at Fegi village by bandits.

Moriki who was a former Special Adviser on rural electrification, attended the APC stakeholders’ meeting and the reception in honour of the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle.

Matawalle was in the State for interaction with party stakeholders, associates and members of his immediate family.

Moriki was killed on his way back to Kaduna from Zamfara at Fegi village near Gidan Dawa in Tsafe Local Government Council.

Bello Mohammed Matawalle, who’s in the state to meet with party members, associates, friends and relations.

The statement read: “The deceased, during his lifetime, had held various political positions in the state, including Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, Director-General of the state Revenue Generation and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification, among others.

“He died at the age of 62 years and was survived by three wives and many children.

“As a result of the sad news, the visiting Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has cancelled all his engagements holding in his hometown of Maradun for the day in order to attend the funeral prayer of the party chieftain.”
