Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago has dissolved the State cabinet and urged all Commissioners and officials affected to immediately hand over government properties to the Permanent Secretaries of their ministries and agencies.

The sack was announced on Monday at the State Executive Council meeting in Minna, capital of Niger State, which he personally presided.

He advised the outgoing Commissioners against lobbying for a return to the State cabinet.

“Don’t lobby anyone, no one can lobby me. As you leave here, please hand over to the Permanent Secretaries in your ministries,” Bago said.

The Governor however exempted the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff, and Deputy Chief of Staff.

Other officials not affected are political appointees who are not commissioners.

The governor said that the decision followed an assessment of his commissioners’ performance since assuming office.

“While some performed well, others failed to meet expectations. A new cabinet will be unveiled within the next two weeks.

The cabinet reshuffle was part of efforts to reposition my administration for greater efficiency,” he added.
