Operating under the aegis of the North Central Women Association, the group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently rise to the ocassion of taming the tide of endless killings in Benue and Plateau States.

President of the association, Dr Maryam Abu Goodman in a statement on Monday which was made available to CAPITAL POST in Abuja, decried the ongoing brutal killings of innocent women and children in Benue and Plateau States, describing the violence as nothing short of genocide in the North Central region.

Dr. Goodman decried the rising wave of attacks on rural communities, which have left scores of families devastated, farmlands abandoned, and entire villages displaced. She lamented that the victims are overwhelmingly vulnerable women, children, and the elderly who bear the brunt of the carnage.

“The silence and inaction in the face of this bloodshed are heartbreaking,” Dr. Goodman said. “We are witnessing the slow destruction of communities in Benue and Plateau, and the Federal Government must rise to its constitutional duty to protect all Nigerians, especially the most defenseless among us.”

The North Central Women Association, which represents thousands of grassroots women across the geopolitical zone, condemned the killings in the strongest terms and demanded immediate deployment of adequate security forces, justice for victims, and a sustainable peace-building process in the region.

Dr. Goodman further called on the international community, human rights organizations, and the media to shine a spotlight on the atrocities being committed, stating that “a crime against one Nigerian is a crime against all.”

The association urged President Tinubu to take decisive steps that demonstrate his administration’s commitment to the sanctity of human life and national unity, warning that failure to act now could plunge the region into deeper crisis and humanitarian disaster.
