Upper Shariah Court Registrar to be investigated for allegedly circulating disparaging video against Chief Judge of Niger

The Niger State Judicial Service Commission (NSJC) has said that it has constituted a Committee of inquiry to investigate allegations of official misconduct against Mohammed Shaba, a Principal Registrar with the Upper Shariah Court in Mariga in Niger state.

The Constitution of the Committee, according to the Chairman sub-Committee on Information of the Ñiger State Judicial Service Commission (NSJC), Rt Honourable Adamu Usman, Mohammed Shaba was alleged to have circulated a disparaging viral video against the Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik and the entire Judiciary.

Addressing Journalists at a briefing at the Commission’s Conference hall in Minna, Wednesday, Rt Honourable Adamu Usman stated that the investigation was as a result of a report from the office of the Chief Registrar of the Shariah Court of Appeal in Niger State, Mallam Hassan Mohammed.

He disclosed that the four member committee was constituted to conduct inquiries and ensure that a fair hearing is given for the involvement of the senior Judicial officer.

Speaking further, Adamu Usman told Journalists that the state Judicial Service Commission has employed a total of one hundred staff in the service of the state Judiciary to boost its workforce.

Among the newly employed staff, he disclosed, include ten Magistrates, ten Shariah Court Judges, thirty legal research assistants, twenty programme analysts, fifteen interpreters, and fifteen Executive Officers.

Disclosing that ten of the employed Magistrates and ten Shariah Court Judges have already been sworn in and are undergoing internship at various courts pending their posting out.

Adamu Usman also revealed that four staff, three from the High court division, one from Shariah Court of Appeal have been directed to disengage from their position for their abysmal performance in their promotion examinations for three consecutive attempts.

The decision according to Adamu Usman is in line with order 8 rule (4) (F) of the Niger Judicial Service Commission (NSJSC) regulations

He disclosed that all the decisions was the outcome of the NSJSC Meetings number 153 held between Friday,19th September,2025.
