E-registration: APC decries low turnout, trains state chairmen to boost exercise

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over the low turnout in its ongoing electronic membership registration, which began early this year.

To address this challenge, the party on Thursday organized a one day“Train-the-Trainers” workshop in Abuja for its state chairmen across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to accelerate membership registration across the six geopolitical zones.

The training, according to the ruling party, is designed to equip leaders with a comprehensive and practical understanding of the APC’s e-registration process as part of efforts to build a digitally driven and institutionally strong political organization.

Declaring the exercise open, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said modern political parties must embrace technology-driven systems to remain relevant and effective.

Represented by the National Vice Chairman (North Central), Muazu Bawa, Yilwatda emphasized that the e-registration initiative would strengthen the party’s digital competence and internal structure.

He said, “As leaders of the party in your respective states, your active involvement and support are critical to the success of this exercise. You are expected to provide direction and supervision during the e-registration rollout.”

Earlier, the National Organizing Secretary of the party, Mohammad Argungu, lamented the low response to the e-membership registration exercise since its launch in February but expressed confidence that the workshop would improve participation nationwide.

He explained that the training was designed to ensure that state chairmen fully understand both the technical framework and strategic importance of the digital registration system.

Argungu said, “This workshop is designed to provide our State Party Chairmen with a comprehensive and practical understanding of the APC E-Membership Registration process. This session follows a series of workshops successfully conducted across the six geopolitical zones, where State Organizing Secretaries and three representatives from each senatorial zone participated. Those sessions focused on the operational aspects of the e-registration system as well as top-down training.”

He added, “Today’s programme, however, is meant to ensure that our State Chairmen, the custodians of party structures at the state level, fully understand both the technical framework and strategic importance of this initiative.”

According to the National Organizing Secretary, the e-registration drive aims to:
Build a credible and verifiable digital database of APC members nationwide;
Improve transparency and accountability in party management;
Enhance communication and coordination between the National Secretariat and the grassroots;
Provide a reliable tool for congresses, primaries, and election planning; and
Strengthen the party’s mobilization base ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Argungu also disclosed that possession of a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) remains a key requirement for registration, reaffirming the APC’s commitment to credible membership verification and digital inclusion.
