Fake Ekiti PDP letter: INEC flags forgery, warns public

The Independent National Electoral Commission has dissociated itself from a letter circulating on social media claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party postponed its Ekiti State congress and governorship primary.

In a statement issued by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi, on Friday, the Commission said the document, dated November 10, 2025, did not originate from the office of the Secretary to the Commission or any authorised INEC channel.

INEC disclosed that preliminary checks showed the signature of the Secretary to the Commission was forged by individuals attempting to mislead the public.

“The general public, political parties and the media are strongly advised to disregard the contents of the said correspondence in its entirety, as it is fake,” the statement read.

Describing the action as a serious electoral offence, the Commission said the circulation of the false document was a deliberate effort to create confusion within the political space.

INEC appealed to those behind what it called “futile, criminal, and disruptive activities” to desist in the interest of electoral integrity and peace.

It added that it is already collaborating with security agencies to investigate the matter and ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
