FCT Polls: Wike’s endorsement of APC, disgusting, condemnable – PDP youths

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has come under scathing criticism for endorsing candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the forthcing FCT Area Council elections.

Youth arm of PDP operating under the auspices of North Central PDP Youths Frontier expressed anger over Wike’s open endorsement of Abuja Municipal Area Council APC candidate, Christopher Maikalangu against his own party, PDP.

The youth group accused Wike, a chieftain of PDP and former Governor of Rivers State of anti-party activities.

According to them, Wike’s anti-party activities lately could threaten stability and electoral prospects of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The group’s convener, Nathaniel Iorzua, made the position clear during a press briefing on Wednesday, denouncing Wike’s support for an opposition candidate as a direct violation of party loyalty and discipline.

Iorzua said, Wike’s behaviour undermines unity in PDP and it discourages loyal members of the party.

“Minister Wike’s public endorsement of an APC candidate in the FCT is a serious breach of trust and a clear act of political disloyalty,” Iorzua stated.

“This goes against the founding principles of the PDP and signals a dangerous pattern of betrayal that has now gone beyond Rivers State.”

The group condemned what it described as Wike’s consistent alignment with APC figures across various regions, characterising the pattern as an ongoing affront to PDP values.

According to Iorzua, Wike’s actions amount to “public sabotage” and could demoralize grassroots supporters and weaken the PDP’s chances in forthcoming elections, not just in the FCT but nationwide.

In light of these developments, the North Central PDP Youths Frontier is calling on the party’s national leadership to take urgent disciplinary action against the minister.

They emphasized that internal discipline should apply to all members, regardless of their political status or influence.

“No one in the PDP is above the rules,” Iorzua declared. “If evidence of misconduct exists, then appropriate sanctions including expulsion from the party must be considered. The party must send a strong message that betrayal will not be tolerated, no matter who is involved.”

Reaffirming their commitment to the PDP’s candidate in the AMAC race, Zadna Dintani, the group urged all stakeholders in the FCT to unite behind the party’s official flagbearer and reject any external interference that could derail the local democratic process.

“Abuja is not an extension of Rivers State,” Iorzua said pointedly.

“We will not allow the will of the Abuja people to be overridden by individuals with no stake in our community. The future of AMAC should be decided by its residents, not outsiders pursuing political agendas.”

The PDP Youths Frontier also outlined its broader plans to support the party during the AMAC election.

These include grassroots mobilisation, collaboration with civil society organisations, and close coordination with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible and transparent process.

The group vowed to push back against any form of electoral malpractice or intimidation, warning that they would fully utilise legal and internal party mechanisms to challenge any effort aimed at undermining the will of the people.

This controversy has added fuel to already simmering tensions within the PDP, where Wike’s role as Minister in an APC-led federal government has long been a source of unease among party loyalists.

His frequent engagements with members of the ruling party, particularly in his home state of Rivers, have sparked repeated accusations of disloyalty, and his involvement in FCT politics now appears to be intensifying the conflict.
