Omisore targets 2026 comeback, says Osun needs ‘serious leadership’

The immediate past National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared that he possesses the competence and experience to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election.

Senator Omisore stated this while speaking with journalists after submitting his Nomination and Expression of Interest forms at the party’s national secretariat on Monday in Abuja.

Omisore is one of nine aspirants seeking the APC ticket ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for December 13, 2025.

According to him, residents of Osun State are tired of the current style of governance and are yearning for more competent leadership.

The former APC National Secretary, who criticised Governor Adeleke for his dancing style, argued that no serious leader should be seen dancing without music or drums.

“You all are aware that my state has been headed by a dancing governor. What do you mean by a dancing governor? Any governor that is dancing must not actually appreciate the tenets of leadership or governance. Governance is more a self-business than dancing.

“The projection and the actual look of anybody dancing in a government house shows actually the acumen and the tolerance and the stuff the person is made of. There is no way any serious minded person can be dancing without a drum or without songs.

“It shows the littleness of the mind and the emptiness of the brain. So I’m bringing before you the superior alternative to rule the states come 2026. There are nine aspirants as of today in the party.

“We have started the process and by God’s grace, I am going to emerge as a candidate of the party. By God’s grace, based on the criteria of my credentials, my credentials will be party at every level.

“Let me be frank with you. If I’m a governor, I can’t appoint the governor as the commissioner of my state for information. That’s how bad it can be,” he said.

Similarly, the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Olugboyega Alabi, dismissed reports that the party had adopted a preferred candidate ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

Alabi stated this after submitting his Nomination and Expression of Interest forms on Monday at the party headquarters.

He added that he received the support and blessing of former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, before picking the forms.
