PDP candidate in Zamfara defects to APC ahead of 2027

The former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Mohammed Lawal in the recently concluded Kaura Namoda South State constituency in Zamfara State has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Lawal was defeated in the bye-election by the APC candidate, Kamilu Sa’idu.

He announced his defection on Saturday during a consultative meeting organized by the APC support group, Yazeed Project in Gusau, the State capital.

He cited neglect by his former PDP after the election as responsible for his defection to the APC, adding that he was personally convinced to quit PDP in order to move forward politically.

He lamented that Governor Dauda Lawal didn’t care for those who toiled and labored for his victory in the 2023 election in the State, hence, he has abandoned those who worked for him.

“I decided to join the APC because of their good intention and vision that convinced me.”

He named the former governor and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, former governor Abdul’ziz Yari and the state party chairman, Tukur Danfulani, as APC stalwarts who cares, noting that APC was growing in the Zamfara, a state in the North Western Nigeria.

“I have confidence that the APC will not neglect me the way PDP did after I spent a lot from my pocket to support the party’s victory in the 2023 governorship election,” Mr Lawal added.

Receiving him into the party, the State APC Chairman, Tukur Danfulani, represented by the party’s publicity secretary, Yusuf Idris, described the defection as a “great achievement” for the APC.

“On behalf of the APC leadership in the state, particularly the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, we are happy today to welcome Mohammed Lawal to the APC.

Idris noted that the PDP candidate acknowledged the massive support the APC received during the by-election and recognised the direction of the electorate in the area.
