PDP November 15 convention in Ibadan to proceed amid uncertainty

The scheduled national convention of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for November 15 in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State will proceed as the Court ruling was never a threat, the Oyo State PDP chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro has said.

In his reaction to a new ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja, the said, “Nothing can stop our convention”, noting that the preparation is in advanced stage and “noting can stop by the grace of God.”
CAPITAL POST reports an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan had on Monday adjourned a case brought before it by a PDP stalwart, Mr Folahan Malomo against the Peoples Democratic Party, its acting national chairman, and other respondents.

The adjournment was to allow all contending parties to the case to have time to file and exchange necessary processes. The development continue to generate growing concern ahead of the party’s National Convention.
Justice Ladiran Akintola, after hearing submissions from counsel representing both sides, emphasised the importance of properly filing all relevant documents before substantive proceedings could commence.

The judge stated that the adjournment was necessary to enable the court to consider all pending applications together for a smooth hearing.

Ogungbenro, who noted that the Oyo State High Court had ordered the party to proceed with the national convention, said, “This is not Abuja; this is Oyo, where everything is taking place.”

On whether this would not amount to long-term litigation, he said, “Wait, let us get there. When we get there, we will cross the bridge.”
