Week 6 CVR:INEC records 21% rise in youth, female, pwd registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has recorded a 21 per cent increase in the number of completed online and physical registrations during the sixth week of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise held between September 29 and October 3, 2025.

According to data released by the Commission, total registration figures rose from 1,004,132 in Week Five (September 22–26) to 1,216,048 in Week Six, representing a rise of 211,916 new registrants within one week.

A gender breakdown shows that female registrants maintained the lead, accounting for 55.53 per cent (675,222) compared to 44.47 per cent (540,826) males. This represents an increase of over 120,000 female voters and about 91,000 males from the previous week.

In terms of age group, youths aged 18–34 years continued to dominate the exercise with 897,676 registrations (73.82%), followed by the middle-aged (35–49 years) at 215,186 (17.69%), while the elderly (50–69 years) and old (70 and above) recorded 92,114 (7.57%) and 11,072 (0.91%) respectively.

Occupational analysis revealed that students and business owners topped the chart, with student registrants increasing from 354,406 to 424,126, and business-related registrations rising from 181,350 to 223,971. Other groups, including artisans, farmers, housewives, and civil servants, also showed upward movement.

INEC’s data also highlighted a notable improvement in participation by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), which climbed from 13,987 in Week Five to 17,450 in Week Six — a 24.8 per cent rise. Among PWD categories, those with albinism, blindness, and physical impediments recorded the highest increases.

INEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring inclusivity and transparency in the electoral process as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
