Wike, a PDP cancer that has been removed, ex-Governor Aliyu reacts to expulsion of FCT Minister, other rebels

The ex-governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, has welcomed the expulsion of the former governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying he’s like a ‘cancer that has been removed by surgeons’.

Over the weekend at a national convention in Ibadan, PDP expelled Wike thereby ending his political career in PDP over his many sponsorship of litigations against the party and his antiparty activities, which the PDP claimed weakened the once strongest political party in Africa.

The development comes after Nyesom Wike inaugurated a faction of PDP in his Gwarimpa official residence with Senator Mao Ohabunwa as Board of Trustee Chairman.

Wike was expelled from PDP including the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu who is a strong member of Wike’s faction of the party.

Babangida Aliyu, said the Ibadan convention also considered developments in the party and arrived at those rebels who were responsible for the pity situation of the party and took a decisive action including other 36 who were expelled alongside Nyesom Wike.

He said: “The convention focused on examining the issues and behaviors that had damaged the PDP over time.

“Like surgeons, we removed the cancer that has been part of our party that has crippled the party.”

The former governor of Niger reacted to the development in the party at an occasion after returning from Ibadan where he participated in the national convention, insisting that it was a bold step the party took in order to overcome its teething problems.

In a video sighted by CAPITAL POST in Abuja on Monday, Aliyu ruled out fears of any court judgment barring the convention from taking place, noting that they decided to go ahead in the opinion of party leaders because there was need for the party to be repaired after a long period of damaging time.

He said: “They made the trip because they believed it was necessary to repair the party and prepare it to give Nigerians a strong political alternative, stressing that one party state would not be allowed in Nigeria.
