Sunday Worship Service (15th June, 2025): We are God’s righteousness in Christ

By Pastor Kola Oyekale
We are God’s righteousness in Christ. Righteousness means right standing with God.
The essence of our salvation is to be put right with God. Before our salvation, we were outlaws.
Ephesians 2:1 NKJV
[1] And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
A spiritually dead person is living physically but without a relationship with God.
Adam and Eve lost their relationship with God as a result of disobedience.
We were conceived in this state, a state of spiritual deadness.
The end result being that we were placed under a curse and condemnation; doomed to be destroyed.
Ephesians 2:2-3 NKJV
[2] in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, [3] among whom also we all on conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
In spite of this, God still loves us
Ephesians 2:4-5 NKJV
[4] But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, [5] even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
Psalms 8:4-6 NKJV
[4] What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? [5] For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. [6] You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
God is so mindful of you. He is thinking of you. He can’t just abandon you. He is looking forward to a day when you would realize that you are not ordinary, that you are like him, created in his image and likeness.
God restored the life that Adam lost. That life is the life of Christ given to us by God through Christ.
Ephesians 2:5 AMPC
[5] Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation).
If you are born twice, you will die once.
You are born twice when you are born physically (by your parents) and spiritually when you became born again and gave your life to Christ.
The only death you will experience is physical not spiritual.
Jesus death was not an easy one.
The most painful way to die is to be hung on a cross. The pains he went through on the way to the cross and on the cross was the sacrifice Jesus made for you.
The sacrifice for your failure and sins, Jesus settled it once and for all.
When you are not serious with God, then you don’t value the death of Jesus. You are saying his sacrifice has no meaning.
There is no further sacrifice that can atone for your sins if you die in iniquity. What you will face is judgement.
Jesus loved those who hated him. He prayed for his enemies. Jesus modelled a new life for us to follow.
When you are born again, the Spirit of God that raised Jesus from the dead lives in your body. There is so much power within the Spirit that dwells in your body than he that is in the world. You can lay hands on the sick and they will be healed.
The Holy Spirit will quicken you and cause you to align to God’s will.
The Holy Spirit is the third part of God who came to help you. You can consult him. You can talk with him and develop a relationship with him.
The work of the Holy Spirit in us accomplishes fruits. We are called to be fruitful. The fruit of the spirit should manifest in our lives.
Galatians 5:22-23 AMPC
[22] But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, [23] Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].
The fruit of the spirit are the likeness of God which we should express.
If you don’t live a disciplined life, you cannot serve God effectively.
The church deals with your nature and puts God’s nature in you. The church deals with your values and puts godly values and character in you.
The church’s role is to bring a transformation in you. If you are in church for months and there is no change in you, then there is a problem somewhere.
