BREAKING: Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar resigns

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru has resigned his appointment.

His resignation comes amid high level incidences of kidnapping and terrorists attacks.

The Jigawa State born Minister was appointed by President Bola Ahmed on August 21, 2023, and his resignationwas with immediate effect.

The former Minister personally forwarded his letter of resignation to
President Bola Ahmed on Monday.
He cited health grounds as reasons for leaving the cabinet.

Meanwhile, the resignation has been confirmed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga said President Tinubu has accepted the Minister’s resignation and said his successor wouldbeannounced in this week.

He said: “President Tinubu will likely inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor later this week.”

His resignation comes amid President Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency, with plans to elaborate on its scope in due course.
