Military repel terrorist attack on Naval base in Lake Chad

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter insurgency expert, he revealed that troops of the Maritime component of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attempted infiltration by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on the Naval Base Lake Chad, located at Fish Dam in Baga, Kukawa local government area of Borno State.

He said, Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade the Naval Base around 1.00am on Wednesday morning, but met a stiff resistance by the troops.

In a post on his verified X handle, he explained that terrorists launched an assault in an attempt to sabotage the Swamp Boggeys which was recently purchased by Borno State Government to aid waterways clearance operations in the Lake Chad axis.

The source said, the encounter triggered heavy gunfire between the troops and terrorists with reinforcement from the nearby Baga. The exchange of gunfire lasted for over two hours before the terrorists retreated.

“Although the base resisted the incursion, minimal damage was recorded. An ambulance and two other vehicles were destroyed, while some personnel sustained injuries.

“The Swamp Boggeys, however, remained intact and were not accessed by the attackers,” Makama wrote.

In the aftermath of the attack, the troops recovered a mortar bomb-fabricated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) within the premises of the Naval Base.

According to Makama, the Air Component Command (ACC) of Operation Hadin Kai has commenced exploitation operations along the Lake Chad waterways to track and neutralise other fleeing terrorists.
