Wike vs Navy: Naval officer discharge his work well – Minister of Defence

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru in his reaction to the altercation between his colleague, Nyesom Wike and Naval Officer Yerima, said, the officer did his work well.

He said the Federal Government will protect all soldiers performing their duties legally across the country.

The Minister stated this while fielding questions from journalists after a Ministerial press briefing on Wednesday at the Nigeria Defence College to commence the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration in Abuja.

CAPITAL POST recalled that there was altercation on Tuesday between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and a naval officer, Lieutenant A. M. Yerima, over the development of a disputed parcel of land in Abuja allegedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo.

Badaru maintained that Armed forces will not abandon any of its personnel who lawfully discharging his responsibility, assuring that the case is being reviewed.

Badaru said, “Well, at the Ministry, and indeed the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty.

“We are looking into this issue, and we assure that any officer on lawful duty will be protected highly. We will not allow anything to happen to him so far he is doing his job, and he’s doing his job greatly well.”
