From foundation to Completion, Hon. Ubong Nkutt delivers Ultra-modern Secretariat in Itu
In the ever-vital tapestry of Nigeria’s democratic governance, the local government system forms the bedrock upon which development meets the people. It is the closest tier to the grassroots, the first port of call for civic engagement, community needs, and day-to-day governance. But for this system to function optimally, infrastructure must match the ideals of service delivery. This is why a groundbreaking transformation in Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, deserves more than passing commendation, it demands celebration.
On Thursday, 8th May 2025, amid the dignified setting of the fifth edition of the Arise Town Square Meeting and Empowerment Series for Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, history was written in Mbak Atai. His Excellency, Governor Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, commissioned an ultra-modern, one-storey administrative complex, an architectural masterpiece that now proudly defines the administrative seat of Itu Local Government Council.
A Leader’s Thoughtful Beginning
When Hon. Ubong Nkut assumed office as Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council on 7th October 2024, he was met with a challenge: grossly inadequate office accommodation, hindering productivity, limiting morale, and ultimately slowing the pace of governance.
Rather than treating this as routine, Hon. Nkutt viewed it as a call to action. In what has now become a hallmark of his pragmatic leadership, he conceived the bold idea of erecting a befitting administrative complex, one that would not only resolve the infrastructural deficit but also redefine public service architecture in Itu.
Building from the Ground Up
With focus, clarity, and a keen sense of duty, Hon. Nkutt’s administration swung into action, laying the foundation of what would become a 30-room, fully-furnished, ensuite office block. From foundation to finishing, every stage was meticulously supervised to ensure that the final product would serve both present needs and future aspirations.
Completed in just six months, a remarkable feat in today’s bureaucratic climate, the building stands as a testament to what is possible when leadership is both visionary and responsive.
A Governor’s Seal of Approval
Commissioning the building on 8th May 2025, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno was visibly impressed. He did not mince words in his admiration for the complex, declaring, “That Block is as beautiful as the Government House, Uyo.” The crowd erupted in thunderous applause as the Governor acknowledged the chairman’s foresight and commitment to excellence.
His remarks echoed the sentiments of many in attendance: that local government, when properly led, holds the capacity to deliver world-class infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of everyday citizens.
Functionality Meets Elegance
More than just a beautiful structure, the new complex is a purpose-driven space. With 30 fully-equipped offices, it provides dignified working conditions for council staff, fostering improved service delivery, enhancing administrative coordination, and ultimately accelerating grassroots development.
Significantly, it also offers befitting office accommodation for political appointees, including Supervisors and Special Advisers in the administration. These key officials now have a functional and well-appointed workspace from which to effectively discharge their responsibilities, strengthening governance structures and ensuring seamless execution of government policies.
It stands as a symbol of government working, not in abstract terms, but in real, tangible results. It reflects an understanding that the environment in which public servants operate significantly influences their output and attitude to duty.
Setting a New Benchmark
Hon. Ubong Nkutt’s feat has set a refreshing benchmark for local governance, not just in Akwa Ibom but across Nigeria. It exemplifies what is possible when passion meets purpose, and when a leader is driven not by politics, but by the genuine desire to make a difference.
This administrative complex, built from scratch within six months, is more than bricks and mortar, it is a bold statement that a new chapter of excellence, service, and progressive leadership is unfolding in grassroots administration.
In championing this landmark project, Hon. Nkutt has not only addressed a pressing infrastructural gap but has also inspired a new standard for leadership, where challenges become stepping stones and vision transforms into legacy.
