Senator Shehu Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani has advised INEC’s excluded candidates not to fight a lost battle as such would amount to a waste of resources.

The Civil Rights Activist appealed to lawyers to sympathise with the affected candidates, particularly Senior lawyers and stop misleading them with vague hope of Court intervention and allow them to rest.

He said the option of Court to upturn the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC would amount to a waste of money, rather they should wait for four years to re-contest.

Sani’s advice to the embattled candidates of political parties was at the backdrop of the the release of fresh candidates list by the INEC where some candidates’ names were missing due to non-compliance with Section 77 of the Electoral Act 2026 as amended. The Supreme Court of Nigeria has quashed the earlier Court of Appeal judgement, insisted that any candidate’s name not in the party register submitted to the INEC within the mandatory 21 days stand disqualified from the party primary.

Meanwhile, Sani said on his Facebook Post which was extracted by CAPITAL POST on Sunday in Abuja, saying that the affected candidates have all the time to strategise before the next election in 2031.

He wrote: “The Supreme Court ruling that enabled INEC to exclude some names of candidates is very clear. Affected candidates should not waste their money, time and energy fighting a lost battle.

“I also wish to appeal to those Barristers and SANs to ‘pity’ those candidates and allow them to rest, and not mislead them into spending more money “filing fresh suits”. Four years will come and go; let them strategise for the future”, he concluded.

CAPITAL POST reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission has unveiled a final list of candidates confirming 18 presidential candidates who are eligible to contest Presidential election on various political parties.

The final list on Saturday by INEC highlights the critical stage of the electoral activities as it would strengthen the candidates to campaign on their various parties ahead of 2027 general election.

The publication sighted on INEC’s official website by CAPITAL POST, indicated that 18 presidential candidates have scaled the INEC hurdle, while 4,408 candidates are in the race for seats in the National Assembly.
