Anambra: 8 fake pastors arraigned in Court in crackdown on illicit religious operations

The Anambra State Government in latest crackdown on fake pastors engaging in illicit religious operations dragged suspects to Court for formal arraignment on Wednesday.

The suspects allegedly caused infractions on the state’s 2025 Homeland Security Law.

The Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN leading the prosecution revealed names of the affected pastors as:
Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu, Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu, Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma, and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama.

The prosecution was at the instance of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, accusing the suspects of fraudulent religious operations within the state.

Anambra State government insisted that the fake pastors were exploiting the vulnerable citizens

through the deceptive preaching of “salvation without the cross.”
The crackdown identified the culprits leading to their arrest, revealing at an event in Awka, Soludo said, some of the arrested pastors have started confessing their illicit religious activities.

The governor further maintained that moral fabric in the State has collapsed due to religious unethical practices, hence, he has introduced an initiative to rebuild a “new Anambra State.”

The governor challenged both religious and political leaders to embody the courage necessary for genuine societal transformation, insisting that both the church and the government must prioritize the “right path” for sustainable development over the pursuit of easy wealth.
