…….. Commends appointment of Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as DSS DG
The Arewa Youth Assembly has felicitated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the occasion of his birthday, saying the moment provides not only an opportunity for celebration but also for reflection on leadership decisions that are shaping the trajectory of the nation.

In a statement on Sunday by the Speaker, Arewa Youth Assembly, Mohammed Salihu Danlami commended the President over many appointments, particularly that of Mr Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as Director-General of the Department of State Services, describing it as one of the most thoughtful, strategic, and impactful one.
“It stands as a clear demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to competence, professionalism, and institutional reform within Nigeria’s security architecture.

“Following a careful and objective review of developments since his assumption of office in 2024, we consider it necessary to present a balanced assessment of the notable strides recorded under the leadership of Mr Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi.
“Under Mr Ajayi’s leadership, the DSS has demonstrated a clear transition from force-heavy approaches to a more refined, intelligence-led operational framework. This shift reflects a deliberate effort to prioritise strategic intelligence, due process, and professionalism in handling security matters.
“The increasing reliance on intelligence gathering, analysis, and preventive intervention has contributed to a more measured and effective national security posture.”
The Assembly further pointed out remarkable developments in the rule of law and respect for the human rights as it affected the review of prolonged detention cases, release of individuals held without sufficient legal basis, and steps toward redress in deserving cases mark a significant institutional improvement.
“These actions have contributed to rebuilding public trust and enhancing the credibility of the DSS within Nigeria’s democratic framework.”
“The DSS under Mr Ajayi has recorded notable gains in intelligence effectiveness, particularly through strengthened early-warning systems and improved community-based intelligence networks.
“Additionally, enhanced collaboration with other security agencies has improved coordination, reduced operational overlap, and increased response efficiency in addressing security threats across the country.
“Significant attention has been given to internal reforms within the Service. Improvements in staff welfare, including salary adjustments, resolution of promotion backlogs, and pension considerations, have boosted morale and operational efficiency.
“Furthermore, the promotion of gender inclusion, evidenced by the appointment of a female Deputy Director-General, signals a progressive step toward a more inclusive and modern institution.
“Training and professional development initiatives have also been strengthened to equip personnel with the skills required to tackle emerging security challenges.
“A defining feature of the current leadership is the emphasis on human intelligence and grassroots engagement.
“The DSS has expanded its interface with traditional institutions, community leaders, and local networks, thereby improving early threat detection and preventive security measures. This approach has reinforced the importance of public cooperation in national security architecture.
“The relationship between the DSS and the media has witnessed noticeable improvement, characterised by constructive engagement and reduced friction. This progress has attracted international recognition, including acknowledgment by global institutions that honoured Mr Ajayi for his contributions toward press freedom, an uncommon distinction for a serving intelligence chief.
“The DSS under Mr Ajayi has increasingly been perceived as a more neutral, disciplined, and professional institution.
“Efforts to reinforce non-partisanship and adherence to democratic norms have enhanced public confidence and institutional integrity.
“The leadership of Mr Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi represents a significant phase in the evolution of the Department of State Services.
“His tenure reflects a conscious effort to reposition the Service as a modern, intelligence-driven institution grounded in professionalism, accountability, and respect for democratic values.
“While the broader security environment remains complex, the reforms and initiatives introduced thus far provide a solid foundation for sustained institutional growth and national security effectiveness.
“As we celebrate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today, we commend his foresight in making such a consequential appointment. It is decisions of this nature that define leadership and shape the destiny of nations.
“We wish President Bola Ahmed Tinubu good health, wisdom, and continued strength as he steers the affairs of our dear country, Nigeria.”
