A security expert, Bakatsine in a post on his X handle on Sunday reported that armed bandits disguised in women opened fire and attacked Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke ward of Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack left scores killed, while several others were kidnapped and commandeered into the forest following bush path.

Bandits reportedly stormed the community at night and launched an attack.

Some residents who tried to escape into the nearby bush were gunned down.

The women’s hijabs, the security analyst said, was a tactic believed to have enabled locals to move within the area without attracting suspicion.

During the raid, several villagers were reportedly killed, while many others were kidnapped and taken to an undisclosed location.

Bakatsine said the incident has heightened fears among residents as violent attacks continue to affect various communities in the state.

“Last night, armed bandits reportedly disguised in women’s hijabs attacked Mallamawar Yari village in Gawakuke ward, Rabah LGA, Sokoto State. Several residents were killed and many others abducted during the attack.

“With attacks continuing across communities in Sokoto State, the question remains; what concrete measures are being taken to halt the growing wave of insecurity in the state?,” Bakatsine wrote.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
