The source said, they started firing sporadically while attacking the worshippers, such that no security agent was courageous to challenge even as locals were abandoning their home and rushed into the bush to hide away from the gunmen.

Our reporter was told that Sunday’s attack was the second time the once peaceful community experienced gunmen’s attack which heightened panic among the residents as development unfolded.

It was gathered that the number of victims could not be immediately confirmed, but shortly after, the headcount revealed that over 20 worshippers were so far not seen as they did not return home for some hours after the incident.

However, earlier reports said, one worshipper identified as JayJay was killed in the attack while few persons sustained gunshot wounds.

This incident marked the second attack on a church in Okun land within weeks, heightening fears among the residents.

Residents also recalled that the Ayetoro Kiri community came under attack about three weeks ago, when armed assailants targeted a local school.

On that occasion, the community vigilante group reportedly repelled the attackers, preventing casualties and abductions.
