Coalition of elders in North back Defence Minister Musa on ‘scathing criticism’ of ex-governor El-Rufai

Elders in the 19 northern States operating under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development (CNEEPD) has thrown weight behind the Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, rtd, over his scathing criticism of the former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

The elders reacting to the Minister’s comment, stated that General Musa couldn’t have been wrong, insisted that El-Rufai’s administration was woeful, controversial and a lamentation.

In a statement jointly signed by Engr. Zana Goni, representing the North-East; Dr Mohammed Suleman, North-West; and Prof. John Anaho, North-Central, the group accused El-Rufai of leaving behind legacy of maladministration, divided Kaduna and many unresolved controversies.

The elders called for a reflection of what the Minister said rather than villifying him or causing a distraction by classifying the comment as politically motivated.

They said people were living witnesses to the misfortune caused by the Other El-Rufai administration and it wasn’t General Musa that invented the history of Kaduna State.

“He spoke about a reality that Nigerians must have the courage to confront,” the coalition.

“General Musa has spoken. Let Nigerians examine what he said. Let the facts speak. If the allegations are wrong, they should be disproved with evidence. But nobody should be silenced simply because the truth is uncomfortable,” the elders said.
