Daily killings in Nigeria highest in the world – Kukah

Most Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, has said, the daily killings in Nigeria was the highest in the world, described the development as “unparalleled globally.”
Kukah said, not even in war torn countries and other less peaceful nations, could such killings takes place, “What is happening in Nigeria cannot happen in Sudan, Cameroon, Niger, Ghana, or any other country in the world.

“There is no other country in the world that 10 people are killed on Monday, 50 on Tuesday, 100 on Wednesday, and the killings go on every week. How can such a country move forward?”, he said.
Speaking at a book launch in Yola, capital of Adamawa State on Monday, a book written on Governor Ahmadu Fintiri titled: ‘The Man They Could Not Stop’ by his former Director General of Media and Communication, Solomon Kumangar, Kukah said, Nigeria is divided by religious lines.

According to him, the western media have taken advantage of religious division of the country.
He lamented that western media use to script their headlines along religious divides, “20 Christians kill, 30 Muslims killed”, while he called on politicians to build institutions that unite citizens in the interest of peace and national development.
