Group welcomes CCB probe of justice Tsoho

A group operating under the aegis of Opposition Watch Nigeria (OWN), on Sunday lauded the Code of Conduct Bureau, (CCB) for accepting to investigate the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, Justice John Tsoho over alleged undeclared assets and operating secret bank accounts.
The civil society advocacy group, said it was among those championing the demand for Tsoho’s investigation by the CCB, said, a thorough investigation should be carried out with the aim of prosecuting the Chief Judge, if he didn’t declare his assets, operating secret accounts and falsified his age.

The group in a statement on Sunday by its Media Coordinator, Aisha Bello, described the allegations as “corruption, professional misconduct, and constitutional violations”, too weighty to be treated with kid gloves of a man of that standing in the public service.
It was alleged that Justice Tsoho operates at least four accounts which he has not declared that are holding huge sums in various commercial banks against the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

The group described the summon of Justice Tsoho as a triumph of the rule of law and a fight against corruption in the system, adding that the law should also target those who are prominent in the society.
“By acceding to the demands of the public for a thorough probe, the CCB has sent a clear message that the era of ‘judicial untouchables’ is coming to an end.”
e group described the CCB’s invitation as a significant first step, but urged the Bureau to ensure that the process is transparent, time-bound, and free from political interference.
It further called on Justice Tsoho to honor the invitation and provide a clear explanation for the discrepancies in his filings.
“OWN Nigeria will continue to closely monitor the proceedings on Monday and subsequent actions to ensure that the integrity of the Federal High Court is preserved,” the group said.
