Nigerian Coast Guard says 9 arrested impersonators, should face prosecution

The nine suspects who were arrested for claiming to be operatives of the Provisionary Committee of the proposed Nigerian Coast Guard, PC-NCG, have been confirmed to be fake and impersonators by Capt. Noah Ichaba, CE & AO of the PC-NCG, commending the security agents for a job well done.
Reacting in a statement of disclaimer sent to CAPITAL POST on Monday in Abuja, Captain Ichaba said, he read the arrest of 9 persons dressed in supposed Coast Guard uniform that were arrested at Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, hence, he considered it wise to confirm that they are fake disguising to be members of Nigerian Coast Guard. PC-NCG.

According to him, he wish to inform relevant authorities and the public that the arrested persons had no link to the Facilitation Team that is dedicated to providing facilitative services in pursuit of the legal establishment of Coast Guard and advised that they should be prosecuted.
The statement further read: “Also, to add that PC-NCG is not part of the coastal rascality that is going on in Akwa Ibom, Ondo and Lagos States by illegal groups who are not part of PC-NCG again owing to abhorring accountability, openness and selfless dedication.

“PC-NCG is opened to willing Nigerians, without stained record, who falls into the profession, that would truly contribute to the success of the set objective. PC-NCG hereby inform the public that to ensure proper conduct, discipline and guidance, it prepared “code of conduct, participation data update form, personal pledge, Facilitation Team’s status/limit, sixty definitions of coast guard and stakeholders’ manual among others, and circulated both hard and soft copies to interested parties, for compliance.
“This knowledge packaged documents were freely provided to ensure that the provisional operation and activities remain within the ambit of the law.
“Unfortunately, those whose motive is at variance with PC-NCG directional principle, fell out with the text, content and creed, took to outright lawlessness, thereby creating clear variation between PC-NCG and they who use the name of Nigerian Coast Guard as if it is already a legal entity – to discredit this noble cause. This distinction, establishes their practice of fakery and the state of not being genuine in line with acceptable procedure, status and operation.
“The public is implored to note that truth sets society free and that the fakeness being witnessed is occasion by willful impostors, who are self-deceivers full of deceit, who likes to put the cart before the horse, who are held by sense of self-importance, who claim what they are not, who consciously refuse to accept reality of situation, who feels threatened by the leadership of others, who feels that they will be overshadowed if they are not in-charge, who are pillion riders that rides on ethnic influence, who are saboteurs of good intentions, who are uncooperative, who doesn’t support legitimate cause if they are not in leadership position. They are possessive of position, power, status and role.
“These reveals their preference for immediate economic gain and pandering of their personal interest which they see as their overriding motivation. As such, they remain a high conflict people.
“PC-NCG stands out in its vision, mission and operation, as such, is not at odd with fishing out lawless persons using the name of Nigerian Coast Guard for illegal purpose, and intentionally determined to undermine our credibility, sincere efforts and national interest.
“The authority that arrested them is not abrasive and their arrest does not jeopardize efforts geared toward the creation of Coast Guard, but, a move directly or indirectly carried out to help sanitize our collective pathway to success. Such road-clearance is beneficial for reaffirmation of authority and for a unified front.
“It is to be noted that the Navy is positively credited for performing its real and beneficial duties under existing legislations, and is genuinely appreciated for filling the gap for Coast Guard – due to its absence all these years.
“Going by the primary duties, functions, roles and mandate of the Navy, which is the “Defense of territorial integrity and sovereignty of the nation from external attack, aggression or molestation through the sea-front, that of policing and diplomacy among other incidental responsibilities”
, it has become increasingly evident that current realities necessitates call for establishment of Coast Guard, as a distinct Organizational name, which patriotic Personnel of the Service would not impede.
“Furthermore, it has become glaring that the Navy is so superior on the Continent; that its involvement in the open maritime commercial market, where buying and selling involving monetary transaction takes place, and which has an internationally marked jurisdictional baseline of 0 – 12 nm of the maritime business zone, makes it a clear form of denigrating the Service, overstretching of the Defence Institution and overburdening of its proficient Personnel.
“Due to this, relevant authorities and the public are invited to note that having Coast Guard now is in the sincerest interest of the good name of the Navy, the impeccable image of the country and the destiny of the maritime commercial businesses.
“In view that PC-NCG seeks the Service and patriotic Nigerians to be part of lifting this banner of national interest and value, and support the Executive, the Legislature and the Stakeholder’s genuine determination and patriotic quest for the establishment of Coast Guard, to bring its functions into conformity with current national and global reality, pertinent need and best international practice.
“PC-NCG hereby assures relevant authorities and the public that Coast Guard when operational would not perform below expectation, rather, would surpass such expectation by bringing several advantages resulting from prudent operation and greatest service delivery. Coast Guard would take millions of unemployed Nigerians from the labour market, through direct and indirect jobs. In turn, it would boost national, organizational and individual’s economy, thereby improving Nigeria’s international image and prestige among other maritime nations of the world.
“PC-NCG wishes to reaffirm that Coast Guard would establish strong inter-agency relationships and cooperation with sister agencies as well as stakeholders, and would uphold what is good for national interest, national value and sustained prosperity.
“PC-NCG restates that Coast Guard is not a Regional Body but a National Organization to which we are dedicated to facilitating the process to achieving its legal existence.
“Let us do it together as patriots through sincere commitment, loyalty and responsibility fposterity and national interest.”
