In a letter of commiseration by the Chairman of Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdullaziz Yar’adua to the families of the deceased, people of Zamfara and Governor Lawal, lawmakers condemned the bombing of market and described it as unacceptable.

“The People of Zamfara State, the Governor of Zamfara State, the families of the deceased and the injured, on behalf of the Northern Senators Forum, I extend our deepest condolences to the government and people of Zamfara State over the tragic airstrike that struck Tumfa Market in Zurmi Local Government Area on Sunday, May 11, 2026.

“Reports indicate that no fewer than 72 lives were lost, who were simply going about their daily livelihoods. “The images of devastation, the loss of lives “blown beyond recognition,” and the pain of families burying dozens of loved ones in a single day are heartbreaking and unacceptable.

“We mourn with the families who lost sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, and breadwinners in this incident. We also pray for the speedy recovery of the dozens receiving treatment in Zurmi, Shinkafa, and Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau.

“The Northern Senators Forum believes that the protection of civilian lives must remain paramount in all security operations.

“We therefore call on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding this strike.

“The victims and their families deserve truth, justice, and adequate reparations.

“Zamfara and the entire North have borne far too much of the burden of insecurity.

“It is our duty as leaders to ensure that in the pursuit of peace, innocent citizens are not made to pay the ultimate price.

We stand with you in this moment of grief and will continue to advocate for stronger measures that safeguard lives while confronting banditry and terrorism.”
