Protest rocks National Assembly over electronic transmission of election results

Mass protesters on Monday trooped to the gate of the National Assembly to vent their anger against lawmakers for not coming out clean on the real-time electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Bill 2026.
CAPITAL POST reported last week that Senators passed the amended electoral act into law with no well spelt out electromic transmission of election results.

The posters who turned out enmasse on Monday demanded for mandatory inclusion of real time electronic transmission of election results.
They argued that anything short of this would leave opportunity for rigging as they insisted that the “electronic transmission of election results” was the important clause in the amendment.

The protest was at the backdrop of repeated clarifications by Senayirs and opposition lawmakers that the “electronic transmission of election results” was passed alongside other clauses.
Meanwhile, CAPITAL POST reports that there was heavy presence of anti-riot police to contain any possible breakdown of law and other.
