Shendam Council boss unveils plans for sustainable revenue through hospitality development
The Chairman of Shendam Local Government in Plateau State Hon. Nicholas Nshe has taking steps towards economic sustainability with the construction of a new hotel in Karu, Nasarawa State aimed at generating consistent revenue, creating job opportunities, and providing necessary accommodations for residents traveling to Abuja and its surrounding regions.
He said the Project currently 40% when completed is to partner with renowned continental hotel chains, thereby reducing the council’s reliance on federal allocations and ensuring long-term economic benefits for the local populace.

Council Chairman, Hon. Nshe, stated this during a recent inspection of the ongoing project, which was attended by lawmakers, government officials, APC Party officials and Shendam local stakeholders.
Nshe elaborated on the project, which involves the redevelopment of an aging facility that consists of 13 flats built over two decades ago during the administration of former chairman.

He disclosed that arrangements had been made to provide alternative accommodation for the current occupants, allowing construction to move forward. Completion of the project is anticipated within the next six months.
Nshe reiterated that all his intervention projects are designed to reposition the council on both national and global tourism maps.
He noted that over three hundred million naira has been allocated to the contractor, ensuring that funding will not pose a challenge to the project’s progress.
“This hotel is not just a building; it represents a shift in our financial strategy. We are focused on investing in projects that will yield lasting benefits for our community,” Nshe stated. The hotel will boast 84 en-suite rooms, event halls, a restaurant, laundry services, a swimming pool, a lounge, and a gym, positioning it as a key player in the region’s hospitality sector.
The project consultant from ATM EARTH Creatives, Engr. Lawi Abdalla expressed confidence in meeting the six-month completion timeline, citing the commitment of the workforce despite challenges posed by the rainy season.
He acknowledged the need for robust materials and extensive retaining walls to ensure the stability of the hotel due to the difficult terrain.
Contractor Abdalla assured stakeholders of the project’s quality and timely completion
Member representing the Shendam Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Joe Bukar, praised the project as a visionary investment that aligns with the Plateau State Government’s “The Time Is Now” initiative.
He expressed optimism that the hotel would create jobs and generate significant revenue for the local economy.
Also present, the Special Adviser on Special Political matters and Special Duties to Governor Mutfwang Rt. Hon. Istifanus Mwansat hailed the project as an investment in the future.
He urged the contractor to ensure timely completion and encouraged local government chairmen to collaborate and pursue sustainable development initiatives that bolster their financial capacities.
Chairman of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, Hon. Stephen Pwajok commended Nshe for his initiative, highlighting the hotel’s potential to provide accommodation for Plateau indigenes visiting Abuja while creating a new revenue stream for the council.
