Wife-swapping Trend in Bauchi: Sharia police arrest 7 on suspicion of adultery

The Sharia Police popularly called Hisba from the Bauchi State Command has arrested 7 persons involved in wife-swap trend in the State.

The 7 persons are members of a group known as Wuddadu who are based in Azare Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

CAPITAL POST gathered on Wednesday that they were involved in illegal wife-swapping practice that made to exchange their wives with one another for marital activities including sexual relations among themselves.

Hisba Commander in Zatagun Zone, Malam Ridwan Muhammad Khairan, stated that concerned residents let out the information leading to their arrest.

While speaking with journalists, Khairan said other members of the group also complained, promising that the suspects would be prosecuted according to Sharia law.

According to him sharing women and exchanging the for sex and marital purposes were against the Islamic law.

The Hisba Commander who is learned in Quoran has this to say: “The practice has no basis in Islamic law”.

He revealed that one of the members claimed to have had a dream that they exchanged wives among themselves and based on that, they now attempted to justify it.

The Commander warned that such practices wouldn’t be tolerated under any guise and any other conduct contradict established religious and moral teachings of the society.

He said the arrest was carried out by the Command’s enforcement unit, ‘Operation Ko Ba Kobo,’ after credible reports about the bizarre practice.

He said the suspectd have admitted to engaging in the illegality without the backing of provisions in the Quoran, adding that they misguided themselves into adultery.

The Commander urged members of the Muslim community to seek proper religious knowledge and adhere strictly to the teachings of Islamic Sharia.

He also appreciated residents of Azare for their cooperation, particularly Katagum Emirate Council, members of Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’a Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) and other Islamic groups, the Guddiri Youths Forum, for their role in promoting moral values and peace.
