Yilwatda backs mobilisation for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has pledged the party’s full support for mobilisation aimed at securing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election.
Yilwatda gave the assurance on Wednesday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja while receiving members of the APC Progressives Local Government Chairmen’s Forum, who sought the party’s endorsement for a proposed mega rally in support of President Tinubu.

He said the APC would partner with elected local government chairmen to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 polls.
“I would like to work in partnership with you. Together, we will build a strong alliance that will deliver victory for our party in 2027,” he said.

The APC national chairman also assured the forum of the party’s backing for all lawful initiatives that would strengthen its structures and electoral fortunes.
“Anything that will make our party succeed, provided it is legal, we will do it. The party will stand by you and work with you side by side to ensure that you succeed,” he added.
Yilwatda urged the council chairmen to serve as effective ambassadors of the Tinubu administration by taking government policies and programmes to the grassroots while addressing the needs of their communities.
He also reminded them that, as the tier of government closest to the people, they share responsibility for improving citizens’ welfare.
“If there is multidimensional poverty under this administration, you also have a responsibility because you are the closest government to the people,” he said.
Earlier, Chairman of the APC Progressives Local Government Chairmen’s Forum and Executive Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, Dr. Mustapha Jibril Alheri, said the forum comprises 685 APC local government chairmen across the country.
According to him, the forum was established to mobilise grassroots support for President Tinubu’s policies and programmes while promoting the ideals of the APC.
“We have 685 local government chairmen under the leadership of our great party. We have also been able to attract many more people into the APC,” Alheri said.
He expressed confidence that local government officials would play a decisive role in the outcome of the 2027 general election because of their close relationship with the electorate.
Alheri also commended President Tinubu for what he described as his commitment to strengthening local government administration, saying empowered councils would accelerate development at the grassroots.
