2027: Desperate opposition plotting to bring bandits, dangerous thugs into Enugu – SSG
Enugu State government has said that it uncovered plots by opposition elements in the State to bring in bandits, armed and dangerous thugs to cause panic and insecurity ahead of 2027 general election.
The government said the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC was responsible for attack at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the NDC’s secretariat in Enugu on Saturday, October 10, 2026.

Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, stated this on Sunday at a press conference which held at the Government House, Enugu.
While responding to reports, he absolved the State government of any blame, saying desperate opposition elements were hellbent on infiltrating the state with bandits and armed thugs.
He said the the NDC attempted to organise a statewide campaign at the Airport without clearance from the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, a development he said, led to the Saturday’s chaos at the Airport.
Onyia said, the party had publicised its “Grand Statewide Campaign Flag-off 2026” through its state chapter and the social media page of its governorship candidate.
The SSG said the kickoff campaign was against the advice of the Police, who insisted that the NDC should seek approval from the FAAN, but they didn’t.
The SSG alleged that NDC mobilised its members to the FAAN facility without obtaining permission.
“The attempt to forcibly gain entry into the facility resulted in a faceoff between them and the airport authorities,” he said.
He said it was police that intervened and dispersed the party members to restore order, describing the development as consistent with the statement issued by the Enugu State Police Command.
