Federal University of Medical Lab, science and Technology Bill: A Win for Plateau State, says Indigenous Staff

The Plateau Indigenous Staff (PIS) of the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science & Technology (FCMLST) in Jos has applauded the passage of the Federal University of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Jos Bill.

Chairman of the Plateau indigenous Staff Mr. Butswat Gidado Manasseh while Speaking with Journalists at the NUJ Press centre Jos said the landmark achievement heralds a new era for the institution and the broader Plateau State community.

The PIS leadership expressed gratitude to former Head of State, Gen. Dr. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), GCFR, whose visionary leadership laid the foundation for the institution, saying if the college fully upgrade to a Federal University it will deliver extensive educational and socio-economic advantages, not only to the Nukpis community in Izere land but to the state and nation at large.

The PIS commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, For his unwavering commitment to educational development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

They appeals to President Tinubu to grant his final assent, enabling the prompt commencement of academic and administrative activities. “This crucial step will reinforce specialized medical education, enhance research and innovation, and generate employment opportunities for the youth of Plateau State and Nigerians”

“Now that the Bill has successfully scaled through the National Assembly, it officially awaits the final assent of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

” We, the Plateau Indigenous Staff (PIS), therefore humbly appeal to the President, alongside all key stakeholders mentioned, to kindly give their backing and ensure the timely signing of this Bill into law. Doing so will enable the immediate commencement of academic and administrative activities for the University, further strengthening specialized medical education, expanding research and innovation, improving healthcare delivery, and creating employment opportunities for our teeming youths” .

The group also appreciated other Nigerian Leaders to include the Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio, Speaker House of Representatives, Governor Caleb Mufwang and all Plateau State Serving and Former National Assembly Members who have facilitated the Bill’s success in the National Assembly.

The PIS recognized the outstanding contributions of Professor Sunday Nkereuwem Etukudoh, the former Provost/CEO of the College, whose visionary leadership has positioned the institution among the best in Nigeria, adding that his efforts to emulate Singapore’s integrated educational model have equipped graduates not only as health professionals but as entrepreneurs.

The PIS however expressed deep concern over the ongoing insecurity in Plateau State. They implored the federal government to intensify efforts to restore peace and security, allowing residents to thrive without fear and fostering a harmonious community conducive to growth.
