99-year old woman demand release of Nnamdi Kanu before she dies

A 99-year old woman, Mrs Serach Oparaocha has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, which she said is her grandson before her death.
The call was at the backdrop of fresh emotion at the weekend in Isama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Council of Abia State, even as she added her voice to Kanu’s relatives renewed call for his release following a solemn assembly and press briefing held at Ugwu Ugba, the ancestral village square in Afaraukwu.

Community leaders who gathered at the square, lamented the travails of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, whom they said is their ‘illustrious son’.
The nonagenarian insisted of seeing Kanu before joining her ancestors.

She said, “Please tell the President to release my grandson, Nnamdi Kanu, so I can see him again before I meet my Creator,” she said. “If he does that, it will be a wonderful parting gift for me.”
The people in the community and Kanu’s immediate family said they are traumatized over the prolonged incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu, appealing to President Tinubu to intervene on humanitarian ground.
Kanu’s kindred comprising, Etitinabu Na Ndagbo said the entire community have also been plunged into emotion distress.
Kanu was arrested in 2021 after being apprehended in Kenya and forcibly returned to Nigeria.
On November 20, 2025, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sentenced him to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on terrorism-related charges brought by the Federal Government.
