El-Rufai’s family moves against Defence Minister Musa over ‘Southern Kaduna Killing’ claims

Family of the detained former governor of Kaduna State, has moved against the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa for claiming that Malam Nasir El-Rufai was involved in killing in Southern Kaduna when he was governor.

The family has already issued the Defence Minister an ultimatum of seven days to prove his claim or retract and apologise publicly.

CAPITAL POST reports that Nasir was governor of Kaduna State for eight years, and period witnessed massive killing by bandits in the Christian dominated Southern part of the State.

The embattled opposition leader is currently facing charges of corruption and authority stealing while serving as governor of Kaduna State and has been in detention

He was also arrested for alleged unlawful interception of telephone communications of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence, Mr Christopher Musa, a retired General featuring on Channels Politics Today on September 3, 2026, accused of El-Rufai of deliberate action that triggered divisions and aided insecurity in Kaduna State during his tenure as governor between 2015 and 2023.

Musa maintained that the situation under El-Rufai as governor was ‘toxic’, even as residents of Southern were not happy with him over killings recorded during his administration.

Under El-Rufai, Musa claimed the State was divided to the extent that people from the Southern part could not go to the northern part to live.

In response to a question, Musa said, Southern Kaduna people were still not happy with the embattled former governor who had “deliberately planned for the killing of our people.”

Reeling out catalogue of evils of the former governor, the ex-general said, El-Rufai ordered demolition of houses belonging to people with whom he had personal disagreements.

Reacting to the claims, El-Rufai’s family rejected all the allegations and demanded that the Minister should prove by producing evidence to substantiate his claims.

El-Rufai’s eldest son Mohammed in a statement on Monday described the allegation of planned killings in Southern Kaduna as weighty, but without evidence.

He maintained that in as much as Musa was entitled to his opinion, such weighted claims must be backed with evidence.

He.demanded for retraction of claims through the same medium.

The statement read in part, “This grave allegation was made without the presentation of any evidence in support of the claim.

“While General Musa (Rtd.) is entitled to hold and express his personal opinions, the El-Rufai family is equally entitled to demand that such serious allegations be substantiated with credible evidence.”

The family said will proceed to Court if the Minister fails to comply as demanded.
