A Day of Purpose-Driven Leadership at the University of Uyo

“To lead is an honour. To inspire leaders is a legacy. Today, it happens at the University of Uyo.”
Earlier today, the Rector and Head of Administration of Peace Polytechnic, Abak, Prof. (Amb.) Peace E. Udosen, was invited as Keynote Speaker at the Education Students Association of Nigeria (ESAN) Leadership Summit, hosted by the Faculty of Education, University of Uyo.

Prof. Udosen delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled:
“Leading With Purpose, Impacting With Passion.”
In his address, he challenged the audience composed of emerging student leaders and future educators to redefine leadership not as a quest for position or power, but as a lifelong journey of purposeful service. He emphasized that the great leaders celebrated today were once students who embraced extraordinary vision and responsibility.

He spoke on 20 core qualities of transformative leadership, including resilience, accountability, trust, empathy, growth mindset, and emotional intelligence. Drawing from lived experience and well-grounded leadership principles, the keynote delivered both depth and clarity, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
He further reminded the students that to lead with purpose is to look beyond titles and focus on influence, legacy, and impact. His words were clear and uncompromising:
“If your leadership does not inspire others, ignite passion, or initiate transformation, then it’s time to return to the drawing board.”

The engagement was interactive, with students asking thoughtful questions that revealed a readiness to take on leadership roles in society. The Dean of the Faculty, the Staff Adviser, and other academic leaders present all expressed gratitude for Prof. Udosen’s timely and inspiring message.
In recognition of his profound impact, Prof. Udosen was honored with an Award of Excellence presented to him by Prof. Paulinus J. Etim who is the faculty adviser on behalf of the faculty as a gesture that reflects the depth of appreciation from the University of Uyo community.
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Peace Poly was also notably represented by the SUG President, Sen. Abraham Udeme Sampson, together with Dr. Joseph Udo (Director of Academic Planning) who graciously accompanied the Rector throughout the event, demonstrating visible support and respect for transformational leadership.
We are grateful to the convener, Comrade Imefon Ettete, a distinguished student leader and son of the Rector, for organizing such a remarkable and meaningful event.
As Prof. Udosen rightly concluded:
“Leadership must begin with clarity of purpose and end in the transformation of lives. If what you do doesn’t align with your purpose, it’s a distraction — not a mission.”
“Anyone who sees himself as a leader must first see himself as a servant.”
Peace Polytechnic is proud of this honour and remains committed to raising leaders of integrity, purpose, and impact.
