Court sentences christian mother to 14 years imprisonment for sharing faith with muslim woman

Mrs Liatu Samuel Dawa has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by a Court in Borno State for sharing her faith with a muslim woman.
Mrs Dawa who hails from Gwoza in Borno South Senatorial District, reportedly shared her christian faith with an adult muslim woman and converted her to christianity.

The woman whose name was concealed reportedly told the Court that she voluntarily chose to become a Christian.
And according to the account presented in court, she told the court that she made the decision herself and that “nobody forced, threatened, cheated or deceived her.”

Mrs Liatu Samuel Dawa was convicted under Section 210 of the Penal Code Laws of Borno State. The provision deals with the “unlawful deprivation of a parent’s custody of a child.”
CAPITAL POST reports that the conviction raised concerns as the provision of the applicable penal code has nothing to do with religious faith, but unlawful custody of a child?.
While Liatu was facing sentencing in Court, she pleaded with the court:
“I am a mother, i did not intend to cheat the victim, i only advised her.”
The court nevertheless handed her the maximum sentence of 14 years imprisonment, without an option of fine.
