“He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.” (Job 5:12, KJV)
As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, a defining moment in her democratic journey, a growing coalition of churches, prayer networks, and concerned citizens is turning to an ancient text for present-day guidance: the Book of Nehemiah.

“Just as Nehemiah wept over the ruins of Jerusalem before rising to rebuild its walls, Nigerians of faith are being called to first mourn the state of the nation in prayer — and then to labour, watch, and vote with renewed resolve.

The statement said, the 21-point prayer guide structured around Nehemiah’s four-part journey — burden and repentance, mobilisation and unity, justice and integrity, and national restoration — as a framework for churches, prayer groups, and individuals to intercede for Nigeria in the lead-up to, during, and after the 2027 general elections.

“The initiative is part of a broader vision to see Nigeria’s recovery serve as a catalyst for the restoration of the wider African continent.

“Nehemiah did not simply complain about Jerusalem’s broken walls — he prayed, planned, and then built,” organisers explained. “We believe Nigeria’s restoration will follow the same pattern: heartfelt repentance, strategic unity, unflinching integrity, and sustained rebuilding.

“Section 1: Burden, Repentance, and Intercession (Nehemiah Chapters 1–2)

1. A Spirit of Intercession for Nigeria: Lord, give us a deep heart burden to pray passionately for Nigeria’s broken foundations and governance, just as Nehemiah mourned, fasted, and prayed over Jerusalem’s ruins. (Nehemiah 1:4: “When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.”)

2. National Repentance: Heavenly Father, we confess the sins of our nation — corruption, injustice, bloodshed, and poor leadership. Cleanse our land and show us mercy as we seek a new path forward. (Nehemiah 1:6–7: “I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you. We have acted very corruptly toward you.”)

3. Divinely Ordained Leadership: Father, grant us leaders after Your own heart who are moved with genuine compassion to rebuild the social, economic, and political ruins of Nigeria and Africa. (Nehemiah 2:5: “Send me to the city in Judah where my ancestors are buried so that I can rebuild it.”)

4. Favorable Policies and Divine Support: Lord, touch the hearts of decision-makers and electoral bodies so that every policy, law, and administrative preparation aligns with truth and fairness. (Nehemiah 2:8: “And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests.”)
Section 2: Mobilization, Unity, and Strategic Action (Nehemiah Chapters 3–4)

5. A Spirit of Unity Across All Sectors: Lord, unite citizens, civil societies, and communities across tribal, regional, and religious lines to build a resilient electoral process together. (Nehemiah 3:1–2: “Eliashib the high priest and his fellow priests went to work and rebuilt the Sheep Gate… Next to him the men of Jericho built.”)

6. Shielding Against Opposition and Sabotage: We silence every entity or faction seeking to mock, derail, suppress voters, or manipulate the democratic outcome. (Nehemiah 4:1: “When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews.”)

7. Protection for Electoral Personnel and Voters: Heavenly Father, post Your guards over voters, electoral officers, and security agents on election days to guarantee peace and safety. (Nehemiah 4:9: “But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.”)

8. Vigilance and Resilience: Lord, grant everyday citizens the wisdom to stay alert, defend their voting rights lawfully, and build up the nation with courage while resisting corruption. (Nehemiah 4:17–18: “Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked.”)

Section 3: Justice, Economic Integrity, and Judicial Rectitude (Nehemiah Chapters 5–6)

9. Eradication of Exploitation and Money Politics: Father, expose and eliminate vote-buying, voter intimidation, and political extortion that prey on the economic vulnerability of the populace. (Nehemiah 5:9: “What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies?”)

10. Divine Judgment on Judicial Corruption and Mandate Trading: Heavenly Father, we bring Nigeria’s judiciary before Your throne. Confront and dismantle every network within the court systems that buys, sells, or trades political mandates for personal gain. Expose and remove judges and officials who pervert justice, and restore uprightness to the bench so courts remain sanctuaries of truth rather than marketplaces for corrupt interests. (Nehemiah 5:7, 9: “I took counsel with myself, and I brought charges against the nobles and the officials… I rebuked them and said, ‘What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God?'”)

11. Leaders with Fear of God: Lord, raise leaders who refuse to enrich themselves at the public’s expense, standing firm in integrity and the fear of God. (Nehemiah 5:15: “But out of reverence for God I did not act like that. The earlier governors… took forty shekels of silver from them… But I did not do so.”)

12. Dismantling Distractions and Entrapments: We dismantle every conspiracy, media manipulation, and trap set by corrupt interests to derail credible candidates and distract the electorate. (Nehemiah 6:2–3: “Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: ‘Come, let us meet together…’ But they were scheming to harm me; so I sent messengers to them with this reply: ‘I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down.'”)

13. Boldness Against Intimidation: Father, pour out courage upon electoral commissioners, judges, and voters so they remain steadfast against threats and intimidation. (Nehemiah 6:9: “They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, ‘Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.’ But I prayed, ‘Now strengthen my hands.'”)
Section 4: Restoration of Truth, Order, and Transformation (Nehemiah Chapters 7–13)

14. Integrity in Election Records and Results: Lord, let the voter register, election logs, and transmission systems be transparent, tamper-proof, and completely verifiable. (Nehemiah 7:5: “So my God put it into my heart to assemble the nobles, the officials and the common people for registration by families. I found the genealogical record of those who had been the first to return.”)

15. Revival of Moral Standards and Godly Law: Father, let this election spark a national awakening, returning Nigeria to justice, righteousness, and respect for the rule of law. (Nehemiah 8:2–3: “Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly… He read it aloud from daybreak till noon… and all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.”)

16. A Covenant of Good Governance: We pray that newly elected officials will make and uphold transparent, binding commitments to serve the public interest faithfully. (Nehemiah 9:38: “In view of all this, we are making a binding agreement, putting it in writing, and our leaders, our Levites and our priests are affixing their seals to it.”)

17. Strategic Positioning of the Righteous: Lord, seat righteous, skilled, and honest administrators across every ministry, state, and key government agency. (Nehemiah 11:1: “Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem. The rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten of them to live in Jerusalem, the holy city.”)

18. Economic Restoration for Nigeria and Africa: Father, establish leadership that will break economic stagnation, rebuild broken infrastructure, and restore Nigeria as a beacon of economic hope for the entire continent. (Nehemiah 12:43: “And on that day they offered great sacrifices, rejoicing because God had given them great joy. The women and children also rejoiced. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard far away.”)

19. Purity in Governance and Institutions: Lord, purge our public institutions and government halls of unholy alliances, institutional bribery, and systemic rot. (Nehemiah 13:8–9: “I was greatly displeased and threw all Tobiah’s household goods out of the room. I gave orders to purify the rooms.”)

20. Sanctity of Sacred Trusts: Heavenly Father, ensure that those appointed to oversee public finance and national assets act as faithful stewards without compromise. (Nehemiah 13:13: “I put Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe, and a Levite named Pedaiah in charge of the storerooms… because they were considered trustworthy.”)

21. An Enduring Legacy of Peace: Lord, remember Nigeria for good, preserve our democracy, and let the outcome of this election bring lasting stability and progress to Africa. (Nehemiah 13:31: “Remember me with favor, my God.”)
A Call to Every Nigerian of Faith
Organisers are urging churches, mosques, prayer chapels, and individual households across the country to adopt this 21-point guide in their personal devotions, midweek services, and prayer chains in the weeks surrounding the election. “This is not a partisan exercise,” the ministry clarified.

“It is a spiritual mandate for every Nigerian who longs to see their country governed in righteousness, and who believes, as Nehemiah did, that prayer and diligent work must go hand in hand.”
As the nation approaches the polls, the message from Linkway Diplomats Outreach Ministries is simple: rebuild first on your knees, then rebuild with your hands. “So we built the wall… for the people had a mind to work” (Nehemiah 4:6). Nigeria, arise and rebuild.
