DHQ inaugurates Court Martial to secretly prosecute military officers allegedly involved in coup
About 30 military officers including a general who were arrested over coup allegation last year are to face Court Martial any moment from now.
In preparation for the prosecution, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has inaugurated the Court to commence th3 trial.
The officers were accused of plot to forcefully overthrow civilian administration and phas3 democratic structures.
The proceedings which will be conducted secretly is not open to Media coverage and has started today, 24th April, 2026.
The prosecution is being held behind closed doors at the Scorpion Mess, Abuja.
The defendants arrived the court at about 8:54 a.m. in Army Headquarters Garrison bus followed by a DIA detention operations vehicle.
Defence Headquarters had said military officers involved in the plot to overthrow President Tinubu will be formally arraigned before a military cour martial following their arrest in October, 2025, and conclusion of investigations.
The civilian suspects in the alleged coup were on Wednesday arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja and thereafter remanded in DSS custody.
