Governor Alia sends strong message as Wike takes political battle to Benue

Governor of Benue State, Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia has declared that ‘Benue is not Rivers and I’m not Fubara’, as a warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike to stay clear of Benue State.

Wike has been making deft moves to have inroad into Benue State with his ‘Rainbow Coalition’, drafting some political figures from the State into the project, including the former governor, Dr Gabriel Ortom, Senator George Akume and others.

Alia’s statement was in response to remark made by Nyesom Wike claiming that Benue State receives N30 billion every month like any other States of the Federation, demanded that Benue governor should avail records to citizens.

Alia said Benue is Rivers and he’s not Siminalayi Fubara, and pointedly told Wike that Benue is not a commodity for anybody to be traded with a private political negotiations like Rivers.

The governor’s response was contained in a statement his Special Assistant on Social Media Communications, Comr. Asortar James Asortar on Sunday.

CAPITAL POST reported last week that some political interest groups in Benue spotted the presence of ‘Rainbow Coalition’ and issued a protest statement that they would do everything it takes to block the Rainbow Coalition in the State.

Reacting further, the governor declared that the future of Benue would not be determined in Rivers or by Wike, but by the Benue people themselves.

This was at the backdrop of Wike calling on State governors to execute physical projects that justify their federal allocations and the monies under their control, while campaigning for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
