NCC wades into diesel challenges rocking network service providers

The Nigerian Communications Commission has waded into the diesel crisis rocking telecommunication service providers due to the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which disrupted diesel supplies to sites.
The diesel challenges has disrupted regular supplies leading to service outages across networks throughout the country.

Meanwhile, the NCC in consideration of the importance of rendering quality services has initiated proactive steps to swiftly resolve the crisis.
The Commission confirmed it is actively collaborating with major stakeholders and licensees, including the impacted service providers and NOGASA, to facilitate dialogue and explore sustainable solutions.

”The NCC is actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to address the diesel supply issues,” the statement read, urging all parties to work together to “swiftly remove the diesel supply bottlenecks” affecting critical infrastructure and ensure seamless communication services.
The NCC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the growth of telecommunications services and promised to keep the public updated on progress toward restoring full service quality in Abuja.
Amid the public outcries over poor network, the regulatory agency further acknowledged the public concerns, but promised that Quality of Service (QoS) challenges across Abuja would soon be put to rest.
The NCC revealed that the service impact, which has affected major operators like MTN and Airtel, stems from supply bottlenecks faced by IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering key base stations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
”The NCC acknowledges the Quality of Service (QoS) challenges being experienced in Abuja.
“The challenges are a result of the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which disrupted diesel supplies to sites,” the Commission stated.
