Text: Psalms 34:11-13 NLT
[11] Come, my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you to fear the Lord. [12] Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? [13] Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies!

Gain mastery over your tongue.
Evil speaking destroys the person speaking, the person you are talking about (you are tarnishing the person’s image) and the person listening.

Evil speaking removes your defence mechanism and makes you vulnerable to all kinds of attacks.
Proverbs 18:21 NLT
[21] The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

Words are seeds. If you plant life, you reap life and if you plant death, you reap death.
Life is governed by the law of sowing and reaping.

The husbandman is the farmer. The women provide the soil (womb) for the fertilization of the seeds planted by the farmer.

We have understood how a farmer plants seeds and also how a husband and wife produce offsprings, how about destinies.

The cosmos is the atmosphere. The farmland starts from your mouth. Once anything leaves your mouth, the cosmos speaks it up.
The harvest will come the day you least expect.
What decides the future of your life, your career, your children… every aspect of your life is words.

Children come from heaven but are damaged by what their parents said about them.

Words are spiritual energy that govern people’s destinies .
Why you are low is the result of the words spoken years ago. Where you will be tomorrow is the result of the words spoken today.

God made our body out of clay and breath his spirit inside us.
One of the purpose of man is so he can exercise dominion.

God rules the world with words and gave us the ability to speak and shape your own world with words.
Your future is in your hand but many of us have been damaging it by our words.

You are not allowed to speak negative words against yourself and others. You are not allowed to speak negative words over your spouse and children.

We are created by words and destroyed by it.
We become what we hear and what we see.

One of the purpose of words is communication so that what is in our hearts can be heard by others.
Matthew 12:34 NLT
[34] You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

Your thoughts are words not vocalized. God has given us a way to know what is going on in people’s heart.
If you have good things in your heart, you will not have bad things in your mouth.

Matthew 12:35 NLT
[35] A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.

To control your tongue, you have to clean up your heart.
Prayer is word, worship is word, news is word, communication is word, the whole world is ruled by words.

You rule the world with words. Words is the tool God gave you to build relationships and even wealth.
You can use words to destroy good relationships. Words can create enmity between people. Conflicts are caused by words. Our nation Nigeria is cursed by words. We create a toxic environment in Nigeria by our words.

Jesus gave us the good news (words) to win the world.
With good words you can attract all the relationships you need.
What you invest with words determine what you get out of relationships.

Lucifer started slander in heaven and some of the angels followed his slander and were cast out of heaven.

Ask God to purge your tongue.

When a tongue that is defiled sings praises, it doesn’t rise up.
When a tongue that is defiled prays, the praying doesn’t get to heaven.
One of the blessings God gives a priest is the power of ‘it is done’. The reason why some pastors words fail is because their tongues are polluted.

Leviticus 19:16-17 NLT
[16] “Do not spread slanderous gossip among your people. “Do not stand idly by when your neighbor’s life is threatened. I am the Lord. [17] “Do not nurse hatred in your heart for any of your relatives. Confront people directly so you will not be held guilty for their sin.

With good words you increase your social circle.
Proverbs 13:3
Proverbs 21:23
Proverbs 15:4

5 levels of Speaking
1. Evil speaking: hurtful words, cursing, slander, gossip, envy, anything that reduces people
Speak the truth out of love.
When you are angry or feeling bad, that is the time when you should keep quiet. When you are calmed down, then you can initiate communication.
2. Idle speech
Careless jokes. People who dabble in this are talkatives.
Proverbs 29:20
We will be judged by every idle word we speak.
Let your words edify. Don’t in the name of joke speak evil of people.
3. Neutral speech
They are healthy for relationships. We use it for communication and to manage our business, relationships, daily affairs…
4. Positive speech
This is spreading positive energy, hope, love, joy among people. The opposite poisons people. Our words should be positive, kind, inspiring, motivating, words of affirmation and appreciation.
Christians are called to speak positively.
We are called to heal the nation, correct wrong and inspire other people to do right.
Be part of those contributing to spreading positive energy among people.
5. Holy/Creative words
This is the highest level of words. God made us in his image, we can creating in our words. Examples of creative words:
Prayer
Worship
Ministration
Preaching
Prophecy
You have obtained a sanctified mouth and God honours your words.

Sandwich positive words between correction even in marriage.

Proverbs 24:17-18 NLT
[17] Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall; don’t be happy when they stumble. [18] For the Lord will be displeased with you and will turn his anger away from them.

James 4:11-12 NLT
[11] Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you. [12] God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?

Nobody who slanders can enter heaven.

Domestic violence are product of words.

Ephesians 4:29-32 NLT
[29] Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. [30] And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. [31] Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. [32] Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Ephesians 4:26 NLT
[26] And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry,

Forgive people. Don’t allow anger rule you. Don’t dwell on hurt.
Matthew 5:22
