EFCC chairman accompanies Ibas to Aso Villa as Tinubu summons ex-Sole Administrator amid six months ₦254 billion expenditure controversy

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Ola Olukoyede on Wednesday accompanied the former Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, rtd as he was summoned to the Villa by President Bola Tinubu.

Ibas arrived at 5.50 pm clad in brown native attire with a cap to match.

Also, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun accompanied Ibas, signaling that the former Administrator’s expenditure in six months was the issue of summon by the President, but Edun left with a file shortly into the meeting.

CAPITAL POST reported that the Rivers State House of Assembly insisted on probing the six months administration of Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas over the sum of N254 billion expenditure within six months.

Infuriated by the move of the lawmakers, Ibas rejected, saying probing him was like probing President Bola Tinubu as he takes instruction from Tinubu directly during his six months as Sole Administrator of Rivers.

The elected governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara was suspended from office alongside his Deputy with the entire democratic structures on the heels of crisis rocking the State, while Ibas was immediately sworn into office until he left on September, 2025 after his tenure of office.

Meanwhile the State Assembly passed a resolution during its first plenary session on Thursday, after President Bola Tinubu reinstated the lawmakers, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.

The lawmakers declared their intention to investigate the state’s expenditure during the six months of emergency rule.
According to the resolutions of the House, “To explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule with regard to spending from the consolidated revenue fund for the award of contracts and other expenditure.”
Ibas had rejected the decision to probe the state’s expenditure over the last few months under him, describing the move as a fool’s errand.

It was gathered that Rivers State received at least N254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee between March and August 2025, under the tenure of the former sole administrator.
