NDLEA Niger command announces mass seizure of illicit drugs in 6 months

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Niger State Command, says in its frantic determination to curb illicit movement of drug in the state, has successfully seized Three Thousand, Six Hundred kilograms of illicit drugs from January to June, 2026, which includes: Cannabis Sativa,Tramadol Tablets, Diazepam Injections, Pentazocine Injection, Cough Syrup with Codeine, Rophynol Tablets, Methamphetamine and Nitrazep Tablets.

The Commander of the NDLEA, Shehu Nomau Gwadabawa gave the hint during a press briefing to mark the 2026 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,theme: World Drug Problem, Persisting Issues,New Challenges, Innovative Responses”.held at the agency headquarters in Minna,on
Thursday 25th June 2026.

Nomau has revealed that during the period under review, the command had a total conviction of (53) drug dealers,adding that (220),drug users were counseled, while,(12),drug dependent persons were counseled and handed over to their families accordingly.

He further noted that about (63), suspects which includes 61 male,2 female involved in drug dealings have been prosecuted at the federal high court Minna.

Niger NDLEA boss stressed that the command had no fewer than (72) wider sensitization campaign to Primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, communities as well as organizations across the state.

He however explained that the event is a week long programmes commenced on 19th June to 26th June 2026,aimed to enlightened public to shine away from illicit use of drugs.

Nomau stated that the ground finale of the event is expected to come up on Friday 26th June,2026, saying school children, NGO’S, Corp Members CDS group, Drug free clubs in secondary and tertiary institutions, general public and stakeholders will grace the occasion.

The state Commander appreciated Niger State government for it’s unwavering support to the agency so as to enable it perform optimally.
