Shooting by local vigilante group trigger violent protest in Minna
Massive youths took to streets in protest in Kpakungu area of Minna, capital of Niger State, after local vigilante group allegedly shot a young over unexplained reasons on Sunday.
The protest which became violent shortly after taking off led to the killing of three persons

Hundreds of youths took to streets, demanding justice for the killing of a young man identified as Aliyu by the local vigilante group.
The protest hits the ever busy Minna-Bida highway, causing vehicular traffic and for hours, movement was disrupted.
The protest which took in the early hours of Sunday made those going to church and other places stranded as the roads were blocked around the axis.
The protest later turned violent as some youths descended on shops, destroyed properties and looted people’s shops along the road around the popular Gbeganu and other parts of the city, leading to the reported killing of three persons, while several others sustained injuries.
It was gathered that the protest was in the aftermath of the alleged vigilante’s shooting of a young man the previous Saturday night at about 10.30pm at Kpakungu area.
The killing was confirmed by the Police Public Relations officer in Niger, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who said one of the vigilantes allegedly shot and killed a young man called Aliyu while attempting to arrest the youth.
