Failed third term bid, reason Obasanjo hates me till now – Atiku Abubakar
Former Vice President and the candidate of the African Democratic Party, ADC in the forthcoming general election, Atiku Abubakar has claimed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s outburst against him was due to his failed bid for a third term of office.
In a statement titled: “I cleaned you up when you Needed me; I stood against you when Nigeria needed me’, on Saturday and signed by Phrank Shaibu, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, said Obasanjo’s latest outburst against him is yet another failed attempt to rewrite history.

He said he acted in line with the constitutional provision and no bitterness against him could change his mind for the infamous third term agenda.
Atiku lashed out at Obasanjo for granting a media interview reflected disposition of a man who has allowed personal resentment to cloud historical truth.
Atiku said the genesis of Chief Obasanjo’s hostility towards him is well known to Nigerians.
“I am proud that I stood against the third-term agenda. I am proud that I stood by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I have no apology whatsoever for frustrating every attempt to subvert our democracy for personal ambition.”
“If Chief Obasanjo’s bitterness stems from my refusal to support an unconstitutional third term, then I wear that resentment as a badge of honour.
Atiku insisted that nobody, no matter how highly placed should be greater than the Constitution, stating that the constitution is supreme, even as I chose Nigeria over personal loyalty.
Obasanjo was a civilian president from 1999 to 2007 with Atiku Abubakar as vice president.
He attempted to come back for a third term of office, but failed.
