The Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, said it’s set to stop students demanding for tuition fees after loan has been paid.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr at a press briefing in Abuja.

He said NELFUND will put measures in place for parents to check status of their children’s loan payment in their various tertiary institutions to check double-dipping of their children.

According to Sawyerr, NELFUND had identified cases of students allegedly accessing loan support while continuing to place the burden of tuition payments on their parents.

NELFUND boss said the double-dipping was unacceptable, even as they were ready to end the situation at all cost and strengthen transparency in the administration of the scheme.

“This comment is based on our recognition that there are so many students out there who are double-dipping. They are taking from the NELFUND and still stressing their parents,” he said.

“We are going to put an end to that.”

Under the proposed arrangement, parents would be able to confirm whether their children’s school fees had been paid through NELFUND without necessarily having access to the actual amount involved.
