We are in contact with Imo gov’t over kidnapped NYSC members – Oyo Commissioner
Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade said Oyo State government is in contact with Imo State over the kidnap of 20 National Youth Corps members.
He said the statement was also in touch with security agents, adding that efforts were being intensified for the release of the NYSC who were abducted on Onitsha – Owerri highway.

Hon. Oyelade said Oyo State government was involved in the rescue effort despite that the incident happened outside the State.
According to him, they will use experience in the rescue of abducted students and teacher in Oriire Local Government Area in engaging the Imo authorities.
“We are in close contacts at government-to-government level and actively with the security apparatus in Oyo and Imo states,” he said.
Oyelade promised to volunteer Oyo rescue template and experience from Oriire kidnapping.
Oyelade stated that government remains confidential with the strategy they will use
“Governments all over the world are not in the habit of disclosing all they are planning in delicate situations like this,” Oyelade said.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the Commander-in-Chief should provide answers on the broader national security response to the incident.
“The pushback should be on the Federal Government and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who are in charge of national security, on what they have done in 72 hours,” he said.
He governor Seyi Makinde has to intervene in Borno State school’s abduction as the incident happened on the same day with Oyo school abduction.
He said Makinde had appealed to the Federal Government to expedite action on the rescue of the abducted Borno students.
He however said though the graduates were abducted outside Oyo State, they will get involved and wouldn’t leave it Imo State alone.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to the victims, Oyelade said the fact that the graduates were abducted in Imo did not absolve the Oyo Government of its responsibility to its citizens.
“Oyo State Government had not and will not abandon its citizens. We will continue to work endlessly and desperately to secure the release of our children,” he said.
