Zamfara: Six Islamic clerics on way to prayer gathering for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election abducted by bandits

Suspected bandits have intercepted a vehicle conveying six Islamic cleric travelling from their communities to Talata Marafa Local Government Council to attend a prayer session organised for the 2027 re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Police in Zamfara in a statement confirmed the abduction when the victims were travelling for a prayer session that was organised Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari.

They were said to have been abducted on the road from Dakko to Damri road.

The Army operating in the State also confirmed that the abduction did not hapen in ex-Governor Yari’s house.

The clerics, identified as Juma’at imams, were ambushed on Dakko – Damri feeder road in Bakura Local Government Area at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

DSP Yazid Abubakar, Spokesman for Zamfaraa State Police command, said the operatives have launched efforts to rescue the Imams alive.

He assured that the Police would ensure a safe return of the six victims.

“The abduction occurred as the clerics were heading to a gathering at Senator Yari’s residence in Talata Mafara, where Islamic scholars had been invited for prayers for peace and the success of President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.”

Reports said the event was expected to attract a large number of Islamic scholars.

The dual confirmation by the Police and the Army, indicated that the abduction did not happen at Yari’s residence as earlier rumoured.

The Army said intelligence reports showed that the victims were abducted while travelling from the Sububu forest axis in Bakura Local Government Area towards Talata Mafara, urging the public to disregard rumours making the round that the Imams were abducted from Yari’s residence.

Local media in Zamfara revealed names of abductees as Imam Yahuza, First Jumma’at Imam in Dogon Madacci; Magawata Abdullahi, Second Jumma’at Imam in Dogon Madacci; Malam Shehu Dakko; Imam Bala Fagon; and Na’ibi Tasi’u of Tungar Nagudai.
